Alexis had her 1 year old well child check on Monday. She is 21 1/2 pounds and 30 inches tall. Technically the ‘1 and 20’ law applies, but she is still rear faced in her car seat and will remain that way for a while. She’s not complaining so I doubt I’ll have any issues keeping her seat just the way it is. When I told her pediatrician I would not be forward facing her, he was all for my decision (yay for finding a smart doc!) He then asked if I was still breastfeeding.
I am confident in my choice to continue to breastfeed, and I feel I should let Lexi choose when she wants to stop, but I was still a little worried about telling him because I’d heard the ‘horror’ stories from other moms with their pediatricians discouraging continued breastfeeding past as young as 6 months. I replied with at steady “yes.”
He nodded his head in approval and said, “Good. That’s the best choice.”
Whew! I really picked the right pediatrician! It’s nice having his approval regarding extended breastfeeding. Especially since I don’t know very many other moms who chose to do this. But I have a pretty solid support system, between those moms and some family. I’m not one for going against the grain too much. I don’t like to stand out and bring attention to myself. So without the support it would be a lot harder for me to stick to my guns on this.
So to all you supporting my continuing to breastfeed Lexi, (and leaving her rear facing) THANK YOU!
I love you all.
